Our Provider Locations:
The providers within the IHCM group deliver high-quality hospital services within safe, therapeutic and recovery-focused environments. While the majority of the people we support have mental health conditions, our specialist providers also deliver hospital-based care for individuals with complex physical health needs, acquired and traumatic brain injuries, neurological conditions, and addiction treatment services.
Our Provider Locations:
Across our hospitals, multidisciplinary teams work collaboratively with patients, families and commissioners to provide personalised assessment, treatment, rehabilitation and recovery planning. Care is tailored to each individual’s needs, promoting independence, positive risk management and the best possible outcomes.
Recovery and discharge planning begin from the point of admission, ensuring every stage of care is focused on progression and successful transition to the most appropriate setting. Through IHCM’s integrated pathway model, our hospital providers work closely with rehabilitation, residential care, nursing care, supported living and community services, enabling seamless transitions and continuity of care as individuals’ needs change.
Inpatient care is:
All services are underpinned by robust clinical governance, safeguarding arrangements and quality assurance processes.
We accept referrals from NHS commissioners, Integrated Care Boards (ICBs), mental health trusts, community mental health teams and other authorised healthcare professionals. Selected providers within the IHCM group also accept private self-funded referrals, where the service is clinically appropriate. Every referral is individually assessed to ensure the service can safely meet the person’s clinical, therapeutic and risk management needs.
An acute mental health service provides short-term inpatient assessment, treatment and stabilisation for adults experiencing a significant deterioration in their mental health. The aim is to reduce immediate risk, stabilise symptoms and support recovery within the shortest appropriate length of stay.
Discharge planning begins on admission, with multidisciplinary teams working alongside the individual, commissioners and community services to ensure a safe and timely transition to the most appropriate next stage of care. This may include returning home with community support, progressing to rehabilitation or accessing other specialist services where clinically appropriate.
Yes. Our acute mental health services accept both informal patients and individuals detained under the Mental Health Act 1983, where the service can safely meet their clinical, therapeutic and risk management needs. This may include people admitted under Section 2 (assessment) or Section 3 (treatment), depending on the individual’s needs and the admission criteria of the service.
Every referral is clinically assessed by our multidisciplinary team to ensure the individual can be safely supported within an acute inpatient mental health environment. We work closely with NHS commissioners, referring teams and community mental health services to provide timely admissions, recovery-focused treatment and effective discharge planning from the earliest opportunity.
Discharge planning begins on admission, ensuring every individual has a clear, recovery-focused plan from the earliest stage of their inpatient stay. Our multidisciplinary teams work closely with the individual, NHS commissioners, local authorities, community mental health teams and families, where appropriate, to plan a safe and timely transition to the next stage of care.
Depending on individual needs, people may return home with community support, progress to one of our specialist rehabilitation services, move into residential care or supported living through one of IHCM’s providers, or transition to another appropriate provider where this best meets their ongoing needs. Our integrated care pathways help reduce unnecessary delays, promote continuity of care and support individuals to achieve greater independence while ensuring smooth transitions between services.
Our central referrals team works closely with NHS commissioners, Integrated Care Boards (ICBs), Provider Collaboratives, local authorities and referring healthcare professionals to assess each referral promptly and identify the most appropriate service within our network of providers. Every referral is reviewed to ensure the individual’s clinical, therapeutic and risk management needs can be safely met.

IHCM’s providers of Level 2 mental health rehabilitation services deliver specialist inpatient rehabilitation for adults with complex and enduring mental health needs who require longer-term support following an acute episode of illness or a prolonged period in hospital. These services help individuals develop the practical skills, confidence and resilience needed to progress towards greater independence.
Delivered by experienced multidisciplinary teams, rehabilitation programmes are personalised to each individual’s strengths, goals and recovery journey. As part of IHCM’s integrated care pathways, people may progress from acute mental health services into rehabilitation before moving on to residential care, supported living or returning to their own home with appropriate community support.
IHCM’s providers of mental health rehabilitation services support adults with severe and enduring mental health conditions who have moved beyond the acute phase of their illness but continue to require structured inpatient rehabilitation before returning to the community. Many individuals have experienced repeated hospital admissions, prolonged stays in acute or secure services, placement breakdowns or complex recovery journeys that require longer-term therapeutic support.
Our rehabilitation services are suitable for people who need time to develop the practical, social and emotional skills required for greater independence. This may include individuals living with conditions such as schizophrenia, psychosis, bipolar affective disorder, complex emotional needs associated with personality disorder diagnoses, autism and other complex mental health conditions.
Rehabilitation is centred on recovery, helping individuals build confidence, improve daily living skills, engage in meaningful occupation, strengthen relationships and prepare for the next stage of their care pathway. Through personalised rehabilitation programmes and multidisciplinary support, we work towards successful discharge into supported living, residential care or independent living, depending on each person’s needs, strengths and aspirations.
Yes. Selected IHCM rehabilitation providers accept referrals for individuals subject to Ministry of Justice restrictions, including those detained under Sections 37 and 37/41 of the Mental Health Act, where the service can safely meet their clinical, therapeutic and risk management needs. We also support individuals who are eligible for Section 117 aftercare and work closely with NHS commissioners, Ministry of Justice case managers, Provider Collaboratives and local authorities to ensure appropriate care planning and funding arrangements are in place.
Every referral is individually assessed by the multidisciplinary team to ensure the service is suitable for the person’s needs, level of risk and rehabilitation goals. Our focus is on providing recovery-focused rehabilitation within the least restrictive environment possible, helping individuals progress safely towards greater independence through personalised rehabilitation programmes and integrated care pathways.
Treatment and therapeutic approaches vary for every individual, with personalised rehabilitation programmes developed around each person’s clinical needs, strengths, goals and stage of recovery. IHCM’s providers deliver rehabilitation through experienced multidisciplinary teams (MDTs), ensuring care is coordinated, evidence-based and tailored to achieve the best possible outcomes.
Depending on individual need, support may include psychiatric assessment, medication management, psychological therapies, occupational therapy, nursing care, physical healthcare, vocational and educational opportunities, life skills development, community engagement and structured rehabilitation programmes. Many services also provide access to psychological interventions such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), trauma-informed approaches, psychoeducation and other evidence-based therapies where clinically appropriate.
Working collaboratively, the multidisciplinary team regularly reviews progress with the individual to ensure treatment continues to reflect changing needs, promotes recovery and supports progression towards greater independence and the next stage of the care pathway.
Discharge planning begins early in the rehabilitation journey, ensuring every individual has a clear pathway towards greater independence. As people progress through their personalised rehabilitation programme, our multidisciplinary teams work closely with NHS commissioners, local authorities, community mental health teams, families and other professionals to plan the most appropriate next stage of care.
Depending on individual needs, people may return to their own home with community support, move into one of IHCM’s residential care, residential care with nursing or supported living services, or transition to another appropriate provider. Through IHCM’s integrated care pathways, we aim to provide seamless transitions that reduce unnecessary delays, maintain continuity of care and support long-term recovery.
Our goal is to ensure every individual moves to the least restrictive environment appropriate to their needs, with the right level of ongoing support to maximise independence, improve quality of life and reduce the risk of future hospital admissions or placement breakdowns.
